I need to change the transmission fluid on my 2006 honda accrod. It is a the v4 with a automatic transmission. I have done this before on american vehicles but never a honda before. How hard is it to do? Are there any good manuals people recomend? Do i just need the official honda transmission fluid and a new filter?
Thanks,
Thanks,
I'm going to do this myself in about 500 more miles based on how easy it easy to do as explained by others in a thread that I posted about maintenance stuff.

Well my friend, changing the tranny fluid is a piece of cake. i dont think you even need to lift the car up, maybe just enough to get a pan under there. There is gonna be a weird lookin nut on the bottom of the trans, it has a square hole in it. Your ratchet will fit right in the square, just pop her off like changing the motor oil.
There is no filter on the trannys so dont worry about it, somehow they have some kind of internal filtering process. And as far as fluid i would only but the honda brand. its the atfz1 i believe and it runs at about 6 bucks a quart. my v6 takes almost 3 quarts, so i would plan for at least the same or a little less.
Also there is no way to put fluid into the trans, you have to do it through the dip stick. just stick a funnel in there and you should be just fine. try not to put too much or too little fluid, keep it at the right level on the stick, and once you get the right level, start the car and put it in drive and reverse to get the juices flowing and then check the level again. your tranny can act funny w/out the proper level of fluid in there.
How come you are flushing the trans? you might need an extra step, for example, if you are trying to ditch the fluid because it got contaminated you might have to do it more than once. the trans has cooling lines that go to your radiator and technically there is no real easy way to get 100% of the fluid out. i had to do a flush on an accord that was flooded. took me about 4 flushes to start seeing a difference since you have to run it a little in order to swish all the fluid around and dilute it and then drain it.
hope this helps, lemme know if you have any more questions.

i am sure he meant a 4 cylinder engine L4..
GHARGERAG use 3 qts of Honda ATF-Z1 and u will be fine and the cost is a bit more than 7 dollars per qt ..

Just finished this. You guys were right drain via the plug and refill via the dip stick. Pretty simple.
A question. I notice on the square bolt that the internal part of it had some dark grease substance on it. I have never had that on any of my other vehicles before. any ideas?
