Default HVAC dash lights are out

There was a post on this a while ago with no responses.

I have a 2004 Honda Accord EX V6 with 65,000mi. My HVAC console lights were slowly going out one by one about 3 years ago until all of them have gone out. The radio still works and the display on the radio is still lit. It isn't a problem when driving during the day, but at night, I'm guessing at which buttons I'm pressing.

I know that there was a service bulletin for a circuit board replacement for this problem. My problem is: my vehicle falls just outside of the VINs included on the service bulletin. It is obviously the same problem, but the Honda dealership will not even look at it unless I pay a $195 "diagnostic" fee, which will be on top of whatever it will cost to fix this problem.

Anyone else have this problem? I am pretty car-savvy and will be willing to DIY if anyone else has advice or info. I checked all the fuses and wiring, everything is okay. All the radio/HVAC functions work fine as well.

Thanks!

If the radio is an alpine, you may be able to send it to alpine for repair. I think they charge a flat rate to repair the radio.
