Default I Fixed Stuck Speedo Problem!

For my 96 Honda Accord,I had trouble with the speedo not always working.Sometimes it would work fine, then other times, get stuck at 20 mph and stay there.

I did try and resolder the circuit board but I really could not find any cracks anywhere.

Recently,I took my heat gun I purchased from harbor freight and I heated up the back of the circuit board and let it cool off.Reassembled the speedo and now its working again!I carefully warmed it up,slowly,as to not to overheat or melt anything with the heat gun so use caution if you ever try it.The heat gun can get very hot.I used the low setting. The upper will melt plastics in seconds.

Yes,I did try the VSS a while back but that was not the problem.

One other reason I took this chance,If it didnt work,it was going into the trash and I was going to buy one from a Junk yard.Had nothing to lose.

Congrats on the fix! What do you think it was about the heat gun treatment that resolved your issue?

Thanks all!

I just had to share it.I noticed that the speedo seemed to work better on HOT days more than cold.So it hit me to try and warm the back of the board up to try and reflow the resin or whatever that stuff is on the back of the boards.

I got lucky really, but Im glad it worked.
