Default Ignition Switch recall sept 24,2002 - Canada

Hi

A little info, my 1999 accord has been losing all power (electrical) and stalling on me at the most inopportune times, such as making left hand turns. I contacted Honda Canada and was very upset to find out that there was a recall about this from 2002!...why wasn't I contacted regarding this, The dealer insists that they have to run a diagnostic on it ($89) to confirm, and even if it is the recall causing the problem I am still on the hook for the fee's. They have given so many excuses as to why the car will lose all electrical power, such as gas cap not on proper, out of gas etc....they are so desperate to take my money it's disgusting. We sat there in utter disbelief when the mechanic said that if the engine doesn't get fuel that the car will lose all electrical power, battery will die instantly etc....I will not let them look at my bicycle let alone my Accord.

Several people have told me that I can have the recall done at an licenced auto repair shop and bill Honda directly for the cost. Is this correct?

Can anyone recommend an inexpensive service shop in North York, Ontario....Many thanks

I changed the title to attract attention of Canada members...

I don't know how they would handle recall work being done by outside repair shops, and I bet it isn't the same way that Honda-USA handles it.

The recall was a safety recall...so this is just me and my tiny head. There should not be an "end to the recall".

So if Honda can't confirm that the recall was done on the car, they are still on the hook. Still may not fix this issue but by law they have to do it - again unless there was/is a time limit.

If the recall was done once before....sorry, you are going to have to pay for the second replacement.

Most times you can call honda direct and they will tell you what steps to take but you shouldn't have to pay anything to get a recall done but not sure how they do things in Canada
