Ignition switch sticking

Ignition switch sticking
I have a 92 accord. The ignition switch sticks sometimes. I wiggle the steering wheel and it doesn't appear to help. It seems to be getting worse. I'm thinking the ignition switch needs to be replaced at a price of over $200 just for the part. Any suggestions?

RE: Ignition switch sticking
The ignition switch can be locked by steering column, but also by the interlock system which prevents the transmission from being shifted unless the brake is pressed. Have you checked whether you can shift the trans when this happens? If brake switch is the problem, sometimes WD40 sprayed on the switch will restore it.
If it's the key itself causing the problem, I would first have a new key cut by Honda. They may have to look up your code. Worn key can cause sticking. A little wd40 may help the keywitch work better. You want to use a very light oil like WD40, but there are many light spray oils that will work.
good luck

same problem with my car-92 accord lx coupe 5 spd.
Wiggling the steering wheel and key seems to help, post it if the new key helps, with 217K on my car my key could be worn too

RE: Ignition switch sticking
Had new key made yesterday at honda dealer. The guy made three keys one works but it won't open trunk. I have been using my valet key without any problems so I think the key is the issue. I think I'll go to another dealer and have another key punched. The guy gave me all three keys no charge but I'd rather pay and have one work. I'll let you know when I go to another dealer and see how they do.
