IMPROVE GAS MILEAGE ..

well you'll be getting more compression, which usually does not translate to gas savings... just fyi

I was under the impression that the colder air causes a higher compression rate, which necessitates a higher fuel consumption?
ie, more air needs a higher fuel mixture to combust properly?
obviously flooring it all the time will use more gas... but how can you refuse once you hear it roar like that?
i guess i might be wrong, but somehow it makes sense to me.. sorry if i'm giving false info

Spaz .... the intake reduces restriction upstream of the throttle body which allows the air to pick up speed quicker when you punch it .... that is why you get better throttle response. Your compression idea only works in theory at an enact tuned frequency, but the intake mfgr.'s love to talk about airflow tuning and pressure pulses hitting at the moment that the valve opens. Like I said, it's theory. It may hold true at an exact rpm, but the engine doesn't hold any rpm for more than an instant. Also, that exact rpm might see a hundredth of an inch (H2O column) pressure boost, which amounts to nothing when considered against the dynamics of fuel modulation and timing retard.
Ron .... any upgrade is going to decrease MPG because you are going to want to hit the gas harder. The mid-pipe is the best bet to keep everything quiet, however it will get a touch louder and deeper if you decide to do it (nothing that will be annoying). To take the pipe a bit further, you could upgrade the muffler to a Dynomax Super turbo which is basically a stock type, but adds guide vanes to improve the airflow by lowering the static pressure drop across the muffler. --- I'd actually like to build that setup because I think it would work sweet and still be even quieter than the WS2 or SP2.
I'm debating slicing and gutting the muffler on my Scion, reconfiguring the internals and having a buddy weld it back together just to see how an idea of mine works .... For me, quiet power is the way to go.

Well I have a 2002 Honda Accord EX/V6 3.0...I recently added a AEM V2 CAI, flowmaster catback exhaust, and even thrown some 18's on it. I never really paid attention to my gas mileage before any upgrades, so it couldn't have been too bad.
However..right now I am getting 300 miles using about 16 gallons of gas, and that is about 19 miles per gallon. I'm not driving aggressively, I sit back going 75mpg with cruise control each way to work...and 90% of my driving is on the highway. I don't quite understand that even though I am driving like a grandma and keeping it a steady speed that I am getting such low gas mileage..I was told that an exhaust and intake are supposed to improve or not affect your gas mileage...but they certainly should not decrease it. I am supposed to be getting 25-30 highway, and 20-25 city. Can anyone offer any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

A couple of things peak my interest here, the first of which is your 18 inch rims, how heavy are they? second when was the last time you did any maintence work like spark plugs?

The only other thing I can think of is that I have two 12" P3 subs in a ported box chillin in the trunk, but I doubt that could reduce the gas mileage that drastically.
I just drove back and forth to work for 45miles driving just going 65 mph with cruise control, windows up, ac off and I still use a quarter tank..its terrible.
