Jus have a quick question
well considering its probably not a new head, i'm guessing you got it used, there really isnt a break in period, and if its a OEM head vtec can kick in as low as 3,000rpms, so yeah.
Don't beat on it for 500 miles if it's really new or recently rebuilt. If it's used and just getting swapped on, no break in is necessary, but you should take it easy just to make sure that there are no problems from the install.

Treat it like it is a new one and you won't be sorry. No towing, high speeds and stay out of cruise control. Vary your speed, gears and listen to your rpms. Change your oil (5/30) at the recommended interval. Those were great engines.
Well .... as for the oil change. I'd say do the first change at 1000 miles, the second at 3000 miles (+2000 from the first) and then go to regular maintenance. I am currently running Marvel Mystery Oil straight from the oil change last weekend. At 2000 miles it's getting flushed then changed to Amsoil with a filter relocation with a partial flow micro filtration filter in addition to the truck size full flow filter. This is in preparation for a turbo install.
