Angry 1997 Honda Accord wont start on the first turn

So my car for the past 3 days has been weird with my start up. So I recently changed out my battery but the past three days, I turn my key to start the engine but nothing happens, but I try again and it starts up. Anyone know why it does this?

Here's one easy thing to check, because it might be a check-valve in the fuel pump. Fuel pressure leaks back to the tank.

- Turn key ON but don't go immediately to START.
- Listen for fuel pump to run for 2 seconds & stop.
- START right away or even before the pump stops.

If the pump runs every time, and it starts every time when you allow the pump to prime itself, then you can probably just tolerate the situation for a long time. Or eventually replace the fuel pump.

If the pump doesn't run, or if it sometimes runs sometimes not, then there's other stuff going on. Let us know if that's the case.

Finally, I'll move this to General Tech which is a better place for it.

I don't know if this is related but whenever I start up on a cold start in the morning or night it has a very sluggish and slow start

That can be a weak battery, but probably unrelated to the other. The starter takes vastly more power than the fuel pump, so your battery would have plenty of power for everything else in the car combined. The battery's weakness shows first with the speed that it can crank the starter.

So you have a new battery installed.

There are really 2 types of no-starts. One is when the starter cranks the engine, but the engine does not run on its own. The second is when the starter does nothing where you may or may not hear one click from the starter in the engine bay.

Is your no-start because the starter is not doing anything? Or do you have a working starter and your engine will not run on its own.

Cant tell from your first post, if the starter does not crank on the first turn of the key, or if it cranks but just keeps turning and never fires up.

On my 1996 DX I had a problem for a few months where it would crank over fast but never fire up. When this was happening all of the dashboard lights would go out while the starter was cranking, and I presume no spark was happening. I threw a lot of parts at it before it stopped but I think it was when I replaced the ignition coil or igniter (in the dizzy) that it stopped doing that. Check if the dash lights go out when the problem happens but stay on when you do a successful crank, maybe you have the same problem I did.
