Default Keyless entry-remote issue-

I had my car for about 3 years before I bought a *used* keyless entry remote, I've replaced the remote batt and had gone through the learning cycle a few times, however the remote is kinda picky about when it wants to work. Before I buy another one, I'm curious-is this a known issue other people are having? Car is a 99, so its been around for awhile.

When the remote is not working, does the red light flash?

Yea, actually it does- I'm assuming since I bought it used, its prob the remote being old. However since I had never used one with this car (did'nt include any remotes when purchased) I had no idea if there was a *bug* in the car everyone knew about but me.

It actually opens the trunk everytime, and struggles with unlocking the door- I blamed it on the winter as long as that was possible. When it dosnt want to unlock I usually have to hit lock&unlock about 5ish times for it to start to engage lock system. Blamed the batt for as long as I could too.
