I have noticed a knock or rapping sound coming from the engine after it is warmed up. If I goose the throttle it does not make the noise, but if I ease into it from 1500-2200ish rpms you will hear the rattle in the video. I have another video of the engine after it sat for several hours. I am unsure of what the sound is, some have told me its probably a rod bearing, others said not to worry. I am stressing big time.

Car seems like it drives okay and makes decent power. Cant really notice the noise unless you are under the hood. Should also note I recently replaced the vtec gaskets and in doing so had to drain and refill the coolant. I still need to bleed it, I saw on another forum where someone asked if that was done? Not sure how it would be relevant... Also had an oil change recently and has the correct amount.

 

How many miles are on it? Have you ever cleaned the egr ports? See the common diy thread on top of the gen tech help forum for a link on how to do this on the 94-97 accords.

 

sounds like the diesel model piston slap maybe, hard to say...

 

It has 200k on it probably not had the egr ports done. I will try that today and get back with you

 

A couple of tools to help pinpoint noises are a piece of garden hose and a long piece of metal, like a big screwdriver or 3' hunk of rebar.

Hold one end of the hose to your ear move the other end around close to the engine. Ditto for the big screwdriver. You can usually pinpoint the noise pretty well; don't allow either to touch moving parts. At the very least you'll be able to differentiate between top end and bottom end noise (rod knock, piston slap, etc.)

Removing the accessory belts to eliminate belt/power steering/alternator noise sometimes helps. Ditto for removing the top timing cover as it allows access to the timing side of the engine. Just bolt the valve cover back down after the cover's off.

 

cleaned the egr ports, they were pretty dirty but not blocked. It still makes the noise but it seems only like when the car is out of gear. I had a friend hold the brake in reverse and rev the engine and it seems fine. No rattle, also I unplugged the egr and it made no difference.
