i am not 100% sure but if it is coming from the frt what you might hear is the brake pad shifting back and forth in the caliper .. if that is the case i am not going to say that it is normal but i hear it in a lot of newer cars ..

let me know what they say,, if it is the pad shifting i am going to let you try a little trick ,, and we will see if it helps

That's usually not much more than a little click though.

to you and to me .. we would describe it that way,,
but i have learned many moons ago that diffferent people describe noises in a total different way ..and if says that the dealer said it is normal, there would be the first thing that came to mind since i have heard the noise on many cars

If it is indeed from the front when first starting out in reverse or forward it is likely the ABS system doing its self check. It is common on all 7 the generation Hondas with ABS. It should only do it ONCE, not continuously.

correct me if I'm wrong but when the abs does it self check isn't that more of a "humming/buzzing" noise? I realize that we all have our own opinions/interpetations of noise but the self check I always thought was just the abs pressurizing and it sounds like a buzzing to me...

Mine is a slight "clunk" no two ways about it. Anyway it's just another possibility of many things that could be wrong.

deserthonda + others:
I went to the dealer this morning and the mechanic and I verified the clank. We then took another new car from the lot and it did the same thing. The first mechanic then checked with the AT mechanic who told him that all Honda Accords will have the clank when the vehicle has been backed up an incline, transmission put in neutral and allowed to roll forward before putting the AT in drive. The 1st gear apparently does not have syncronizers. I have never heard the clank if I put the AT in drive before releasing the brake.

The mechanic also stated that not all Honda automatics are built that way.

Interesting, guess they should have explained that the first time they had it?
