Default low fuel light not accurate?

I have a 2006 Accord EX-V6 and the low fuel light comes on when there is 4-5 gallons left in the tank. Does this seem high? There is an 18 gallon tank in my car and I filled up exactly when the light came on and it only took 12 gallons to fill... Has anybody else noticed this? Is this so Honda covers thier asses and no law suits are brought on them in case somebody runs out of gas?

I don't know about the 06's but on 94-97 accords the guage reads empty with about 4 gallons still in the tank, that way you don't run the fuel level to low and it saves the life of your fuel pump... When you keep the tank at about 1/4 (or 4-5 gallons in your case) then the fuel pump doesn't have to work as hard and it lasts longer

my car shows low fuel at 3.5-4 gallons. Not that I see the light on a regular basis

The light generally comes on when there is 2 gallons left in the tank; should take someone between 50 and 80 miles depending on the traffic. But in my case I try not to let my Honda fuel tank get down that low, although it has happened a few times. I just remember my grandfathers (all of whom were mechanics) telling me not to let it get down below a quarter of a tank. Too much junk in the bottom of the gas tank that would then get personally aquainted with your fuel lines, pump, engine, etc.

I have a 2006 Accord EX 4 cyl sedan and my low fuel light comes on consistanly at 12.5 gallons, meaning I have 4.5 gallons left. So your's sound just like mine even though they are different engines. Because of what has been mentioned about protecting the fuel pump, I am quite happy with this alert. My wifes Pilot (2005) comes on with only 2.7 gallons left iin a 21 gallon tank. I have not been successful in getting her used to filling up prior to the LFL.
