Default Maintenance Required

I was trying to search the forum about the Maintenance required light and I noticed someone mentioned to reset the ECU and clean the EGR ports. Well, I own a 99 accord EX V6. Doesthis procedure go for my yr?? Or is it something serious that I have to go into a shop and have them check out? And if I do have to clean the EGR ports, where are they located and how do I clean them??

Well the Main't Required lite and Check Engine Lite are 2 different animals.
The main't lite displays when a certain mileage is reached to alert you to check the schedule in the owners manual.
Now the CEL means there has been some type of malfunction and should be checked out.
So if you have a CEL it doesn't absolutely mean the EGR ports are plugged up, it could be something much more expensive than that.

if it is just the maint lite no need to worry ,, just as Dude says look in the owners manual for needed maintanance in relation to the mileage

if it is the chk engine lite,, go to auto zone and have them read the code and post it here ,, if so ,DO NOT just assume that it is the EGR problem ( it could be ) but it could also be a lot more things .. that's why we would need to know the code

The light has three different colors green, yellow, and red. You can reset the mant light by inserting your key in the slot next to the light.

The light has three different colors green, yellow, and red. You can reset the mant light by inserting your key in the slot next to the light.
His '99 has a different procedure.

Press & hold the odometer reset button.
Turn the key on - don't need to actually start the engine.
Continue holding the button for another 15 or 20 seconds.
Lamp will flash a few times & go out. Then let go of the button.
