Default Major Oil Leak

Last week I changed the oil in my 1996 Accord LX. Yesterday I experienced a major oil leak. I checked the oil pan bolt plug, and the filter. Both are secure and no leak.
I added another quart to the engine, and started it. The leak, (more like pouring out) was coming from what appears to be adjacent to the oil pan, in where the oil pump attaches to the block. It is coming out below the oil pan, and although the oil pan gasket is leaking a bit, this is below it, and is coming out in a steady stream.

Can anyone give me an idea of what this might be? I have a attached a picture from my phone, so it isn't the best picture, but will give you an idea where this is leaking. The oil pan is to the right, with leak coming from below the oil pan gasket between the where the oil pump attaches to the block.

The rear balance shaft cover has an oring gasket that is a known leak spot. It is also possible for the forward balance shaft or crankshaft seals to leak. Accessing all seals requires removal of timing belt and balance shaft belt for access.I would expect oil to be leaking from the bottom of the lower timing belt cover. I couldn't tell anything from your picture unfortunately.

Also check the oil pressure switch on the back side of the engine near the oil filter. Oil can sometimes penetrate the switch and cause a significant leak.

good luck
