Default massive oil consumption @ highway speed

Hi
I am not new to the forum world or cars just new to imports & computers
Anyway,
I resently bought a 1989 Honda Accord lx i with 140 on the clock.

I put 1200 miles on it aorund town & seemed fine with taking a trip in it

well I got on the Florida Turnpike & wound her up to 70MPH made sure it was topped off with gas & oil about 35 miles the check engine light came on I am thinking to myself OK maybe a O2 sensor or something
Well right about 100 miles the oil light starts to flicker so I stopped & put 2 quarts in it!

Not a drip of oil anywhere.

I stopped as soon as I got off the turnpike to fill up to check milealge & damn if it did'nt need 2 more qts !

I spent 21.60 in oil & $18 in gas!

Has to be something like a bad PCV valve.
BTW 35 MPG HWY only 20 around town

I need to buy A Chilton's book I have a Haynes but dislike Haynes

Can you please tell me where in sams hell the PCV is & any other reasons it might be drinking oil. I am contemplating a Oil scoop

Also in the 1200 miles around town it did not use any oil & the check engine light went out off the highway.

On the funny side when I slowed down for the sun pass & re gassed it you should have seen the cloud of smoke OMG fogged the entire toll plaza.

I hope the EPA could not see my tag LOL

PLease help

Thanks

PS I am used to working on old Gas sucking American Muscle cars classics & antiques

PVC is right on too of the valve cover. A compression test is in order.

I was going to ask about the smoking because 2 quarts in 100 would produce quite a lot of smoke.

I doubt the PCV valve will help much, as the oil burning is excessive...

Hi thanks for the reply my engine does not look like the one in the link its a PGI fuel injected supposed to be 1.9 L but Identafix does not list a 1.9 only a 2.0

the thing purrs like a kitten no oil leaks I was also thinking clogged oil return but then the bottom end would sound like a disco .
no misses no loss of power (what power it has)
I will look again some more in the daylight
somehow oil is getting into the intake my 1st bet is the PCV when I can find it I will know a bit more

pictures are very helpful
thank you

Trust me, my 89 LX acted like this once......come to find out the plunger inside the pcv was gone....and I mean gone. Replaced the pcv and never had another issue.

Look in the same general area on the LXi - I can take a pic later today of my 89 LXi. Yours should be coming up thru the intake just a little left of where is does on the carb models. There is a hose runs up to the plenum chamber.

Sorry for the delay...no pic but I just went out and looked.

The PCV is right under where the throttle cable attaches to the TB.....again to the left and back just a tad from the pic posted.

One thing just came to mind......get the code from the ECU.

The ECU is under the drivers seat. From behind the drivers seat, you will see a "plastic" box. Towards the center of the car there is a cover, pull from the top and it will fold down. You will then see a LED light.

Turn the key to on, count the "flashes" of the led light. The code will repeat after a pause. Count them a few times to be sure you got it.

Let us know what code(s) you have.
