metal shavings on oil dipstick and check engine light?
Hey y'all noob here and new to accords as well.. looking to possibly buy an 04 with the 2.4 Sulev engine, under 100k miles at auction but when I checked the dipstick it looked kinda dirty like metal shavings or something..how bad is that? I've never had a car with that issue so not sure actually what it could mean? And the other thing is a check engine light but I wasn't able to connect my obd scanner so no idea what code but what's the most common code for these engines? It seemed to run very well with no major leaks or anything. I've been eyeing this model accord for a while as my second car so any information very appreciated

Change the oil, pour some of the used oil through a paper towel and look at it under bright light. Also, I think most of the drain plugs are magnetic, so look for metal chips there, but might not stick if its aluminum. Does your car use antifreeze, even a little bit?

Metal shavings in your engine’s oil are cause for concern. You will affect removing the engine’s oil pan and bearing caps. You will remove the machine, and an overhaul will be needed. Some might find it cheaper to locate a replacement engine from a junkyard. I have found a post about check engine light https://bestobd2scanners.com/how-to-...-engine-light/. You can reset your car check engine light following the post.
