For those of you folks that read my last post, discard it. My mechanic got the CEL codes from my 99 accord v6 and found I have a bad CAT. I dont know why it went bad, yet. Any ideas on the cheapest rout for removing and replacing the bad cat.

The car is a 99 accord ex v6 4 door. I dont know much about Hondas so work with me plz.

it also has 154k miles on it.

 

First of all i would make sure its not a bad o2 sensor first because that is a much cheaper fix than a new cat.(The o2 sensor is what would tell you your cat is bad, and it is more likely that is broken than the cat).

If the cat is actually the problem, do you have state inspection or care about the enviorment? Because you can trick the o2 sensor into thinking the cat is working alot cheaper than actually replacing the cat.

As for actually buying a new one, check junkyards or ebay. or a exhaust shop could get you one.

 

Well lets see, I dont care about anything but passing emissions in AZ, well that, and I dont really want this sounding any different then stock, id like to take the cheapest rout for now. Lastly to pass emissions all arizona does is is check the ecu for any codes thrown from O2's and such.

 

If all they do is check for codes first

check to make sure the 02 sensor works

then buy a o2 cheater

 

how do you make sure the o2 is working properly? if its not throwing any codes...

If your mechanic knows anything he will have already done this.

 

But itdidn't work..re-do it and I will take a look at it..
