Default Need Help With..... Not sure What It's Called

I don't know what part of the door this issue pertains to so I'll just give a scenario.

When you open a door, there are usually 3 or 4 places along the path of the door's travel where you can let go of the door and it will stay at that spot by itself until you either open it further or close it. For the sake of this post, I'll refer to those places as "stops".

My driver door, doesn't have those stops any more. When you open the door, it has free travel all the way open and closed so there's nothing to keep it open as you are getting in or out or whatever. This is especially annoying when you're getting out of the car and the door immediately keeps closing on your legs or hits you in the head, etc.

First off, what the heck is that part of the door's assembly called?
Second, is there a way to fix it so it works like it should and the way the rest of the doors do?

I hope I was clear enough and somebody know what I'm referring to.

Thanks!

Steve

Honda calls it a "checker"?

You can get a new one from Honda or try a bone yard.

Thank you gentlemen.
"Checker" I've heard of but didn't know that's what it was called. "Detent" on the other hand.... even my spell checker red flagged the word as I wrote this reply.
