Default New car or upgrade?

I have a 1996 Honda Accord EX, auto tranny, not sure of engine size, and it has 80k miles, leather seats, cassette player, pretty much everything is stock. I have the choice of saving up money and getting a new car, or saving up money and upgrading my accord. I want everything possible custom for my car. I want it to go fast and I want it to look and sound good. So I ask you, which would be better. Getting a new car and upgrading that, or keeping the accord and upgrading it. Things to keep in mind, I don't have a lot of money, I want the car to last a long time. If you need to know anything else to make a desicion, I'll try to find out.

It will be cheaper to just upgrade your current accord than to buy a new car and try to upgrade that. Not to mention a 96 accord EX is a good motor for a turbo and a VERY common model so finding parts for it is easy.

Plus with only 80k miles your Honda is not even "broken in" yet[:-]

I was told that a turbo on an auto tranny could hurt the car...any thoughts about that?

It's true that an auto tranny can't take as much as a manual but as long as you stay around or under 6-8 psi of boost and get an intercooler for the tranny you shouldn't experience any abnormal issues.

I should have probably mentioned this before, I know pretty much nothing about everything non-stock about a car. Can someone explain what around or under 6-8 psi is?

Turbo boost is measured in PSI, it basically increases compression in the cylinders. It's an adjustable setting on a turbo and for example if you take a 94 accord ex with 145 hp stock and set the turbo to 8 psi of pressure you wind up with roughly 225 HP. If you'd like to learn more about the turbos and install etc. then just do a search in here for "turbo help" and you'll find a LOT of info.
