New guy... Looking for advice on stock-car....
Hi there guys,
My Dad and I race stock cars and I'm looking to build an Accord for my first car in the Fun-Stock division. I was wondering if you guys could recomend which model I need to find. Rule restrictions are, 1993 or older, 2&4 doors, hatchbacks and wagons, 4 cylinders max, Must be naturally aspirated, must be automatic,No DOHC, no V-Tec, ZC(?) or multi-port. I was thinking of a 1993 Accord with the F22A7 as long as it doesn't break any of the rules... (http://www.peterboroughspeedway.com/...un%20Rules.pdf)
I'll admit, I know very little about Hondas and any information you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Keith

I have no idea what ZC is in the context of a Honda engine, but I just want to clarify the the F22A7 is not V-Tec, ZC or multi-port...lol. Also, I've heard that with many Honda engines (such as the H22 and the B16), you can retard the timing by moving the timing belt back a tooth for more horsepower. Does this apply to the F22A7? Can you chip the computer? Are there any other "cheap/free" horsepower mods? How many horsepower could I be looking at in "stock" trim?

Yes the F22A7 fits your regulations. On my old F22B2, I could retard/advance timing 6º by twisting the distributor. I'm not sure how many degrees a single tooth is, but all the 4 cyl have timing belts.

Um, general tech help would have been good, or engine/internal, but I honestly don't look at what section it's in, just whats near the top in "Today's Posts".
ECU tuning can be done to adjust the adjust timing electronically, adjustable cam gears can be used to adjust timing mechanical at the cam.

Just my opinion, I'd get a 93 EG Hatchback (Civic, of course). It's got 70 HP (D15B8 engine) but it could fly. The car itself weights 2094 lbs, and the car itself needs to weigh at least 2200 lbs. I'd say throw in exactly 106 lbs. of sandbags in the back of the hatch, lol. Good luck though.

Way I see it, I'lltry to run at the minimum weight (2200 including driver + 150 poundsfor Hondas)regardless of what I'm running. I think the 55-80 extra horse will make a big difference, unless the Civic has significantly different suspension than the Accord. Or are you saying there aren't 866 pounds to remove from the car?In addition if I were to go with the Civic,is there anyreason not to go with the 102 HPD15B7 over the 70 HP D15B8 engine?
