Default New to HONDA! Need help plz...

Hi, I just bought a 99 accord, it has a CEL on, and my mechanic is telling me there is carbon build up under the plenum (not sure how thats spelled). Anyways, my question is, can I do this job (is there a tech article for this job?)or should I let my mechanic do it? He said the job would be 3-4 hunderd, but that it would clear the CEL. Any Help would be greatly appreciated, I would say I have pretty good tech skills, if that matters.

Thanks.

It would be very helpful to know WHAT code the CEL indicates.
How many spark plugs are in that engine?

EGR passageways in the intake manifold?? Hard to say for sure based on not much information in the original post.

Go to AutoZone & have them tell you the CELerror code number. Don't pay too much attention to the counter-guy's description, the number is what we want.

You really need to get us that CEL code. I would not go paying 3-4 hundred before you consult us on the problem.

So $325 is the labor & you still have to pay for the part? I just replied to your other post incorrectly since I thought you meant $325 total.

Ask the mechanic the exact CEL code number it is throwing if he is so sure. Sounds to me like he is trying to take you for a ride and take your $.

x2 ..... CODE or we can't help you further! Also, from what I've seen on here, there is no way that he can be 100% sure that it is a cat from codes alone. Is there rattling in the exhaust? Rotten egg or burning smell? The same codes that indicate a cat can also indicate an O2 sensor.

Examples of codes:

P0300, P0301, P0302, P0304, P0305, P0306, P0700, P0701 (These were 3G's codes when I got rid of it)

You don't really have to annoy your mechanic by demanding the code. Justtake the carto AutoZone & have them read it.
