Default New timing belt design vs. old timing belt design

I just read Desert's timing belt interval post. Nice to have.

What isthe difference between the later nineties timing belts and the one that is in our 92? Is the stress the belt is subjected to different, or are the later belts simply more "rugged" because of what they're made from/of?

If the answer is that they're more rugged, why doesn't Honda use that same newermaterialwhen they make replacement belts for the 92, and then increase the maintenance interval once the oldbelt is replaced with a new one?
