I just had new back tires (front ones are only two months old) installed on my car less than three weeks ago. I had them balanced, and aligned. Checked the psi, and it's right around 33. No leaks in any of the tires either.

Even if the road is midly damp, I have to creep around corners just so I don't spin out. This is a long shot, but could the power steering be an issue?

If it helps, I don't drive like the car is stolen.

 

How new are the tires? Had a couple hundred miles to wear off the slippery mold-release compound?

Front tires are only a couple months old... Did you buy identical tires now for the rear? Or are they mis-matched?

You say "spin out"... Do the rear tires truly break free?

 

I had the alignment done at the local Pep Boys, and they just put new tires on, different brand. I drive from work and back which is only about two or three miles, so it's only had about 60 miles tops on the new tires.

The thing about it is that before I had the back tires replaced (I think I ran over nails in the driveway), I still had that problem, but I just thought it was just low tire pressure.

When making a turn, I "burn out" so the tires are going but I'm barely moving so it's skipping a little bit. Maybe a few more miles and see if that works?

 

Burn out making a turn sounds like it's the front tires breaking loose? I guess I'm not completely sure what's happenning.

 

I think some tires are just not good on wet roads. Also you might take a few pounds off the tires. Try 30 lbs in the tires.

 

I have a feeling that they put on mismatched tire on this car.

This. Frankly I've never heard of this problem in the summer: new tires grip worse than old tires?

So could look on the tire sidewall at the DOT tire rating for traction and see if it matches or exceeds that of the front tires. AA, A, or B.
But that doesn't change anything if the tires slip worse than old worn out tires

And if the psi thing doesn't cure it, then return to the tire place, have them take the tires back for safety reasons,
but expect to pay the difference to get some better compatible tires. A friendly approach should work. Best luck

 

It's Pep Boys, so I wouldn't be too surprised, lol. I'll lower the psi today, and keep a close eye. I know it's a silly topic, haha. Just wanted to make sure all the bases were covered. Thanks for the input, y'all!
