Default newbie.. 2001 4 cyl autom.. ??

Excuse the newness... is there a frequently asked questions area? Just got a 2001 4cyl auto EX, 155k, good service records, etc.

Tried the DIY... says to post in gen tech area only??

1. Tranny juice... 55k... Honda brand juice only? Is there a filter? Factory recalled tranny replaced few yrs back. How many qts? Should I add an inline filter? PO says juice not changed since replacement..

2. PS juice... Honda brand only? capacity?

Car runs/shifts fine.. am a preventive maintenance type person.

Appreciate your input...

IMO-

Honda only Trans fluid (Z1 being replaced by DW1). Honda/Acura "Approved" ps fluid.

No seviceable filter, adding an in-line and or additional trans cooler is always a good idea.

The trans holds about 9 qts, on a "drain and fill" about 3 qts will be needed. The 98-02 Accords don't have a good record with trans, so I would change the fluid a little more freq than what is in the "book"....let's say every 15K.

Honestly I've never drained the ps all the way. I've always just removed the ps res or sucked the fluid out, drained it, and then re-filled.

Thanks, poorman... as stated, am a newbie to forum and to the 01 ex 4cyl auto. Found some time to search some older threads, and the drain 3 add 3 Honda juice for the tranny is on the priority list.

Current tran fluid "looks" like cherry cough syrup, no "burnt" smell, probably a good thing. Will eyeball magnet on c/o.

PS fluid right funky looking... Honda juice for it, too.

cheers!

Honda uses internal filter so there is no way of changing them, could only be change when overhauling the tranny. 03 up they added an external inline filter that could be change.

Did drain 3, add 3 to trans. Magnet was coated, old fluid looked, smelled okay...shifting very smoothly.

Drained PS reserv and pretty much hoses, replaced fluid.

Got clock lamp/bulb from dealer, now fixed.

SRS was lit up, dealer says it's the driver's seat belt buckle, will replace no charge.

Code scan showed all clear.

Guess I'm good to go for a while.

Thanks, tnci

Good to hear...thanks for getting back.

Again, I would suggest staying on top of the trans fluid changes going forward.

Should be good to go.....enjoy.
