Default Noise from the back

I have read other noise in the list. This one was from the back. I have 2009. Just a few weeks into the car this noise came up. Then I went back for at least 4-5x repair of the same noise. Each time the do some fix, but the fix last for only about 2 weeks. I am out of town a lot, and my wife drives this car. With her job plus sending two kids to school she never had time to take the car to the dealer. Until it passed the 36k mile mark. The the dealer, did a few more fixes. Still the same. The sound is still there. I wonder this is a low quality of the Honda Body.

For one thing, the splash shield on this V4 is not the proper type. I wonder, Honda used the wrong type of part on my car. This noise sound like metal hitting metal. Not sure it is related to suspension or just the body. The tech at the dealer told me that many car of my type have such problems. I wonder this is a problem with many cars, or just my particular car has this problem.

There were two Honda technical service bulletins regarding noise from the rear shelf. This is one of them:

"http://mordor.rutgers.edu/accord/tsb/08-09%20rear%20shelf%20rattle%20on%20rough%20roads%20 08-083.pdf"

The other bulletin was regarding rattle when the radio bass is turned up, which is probably not your problem either.

However, if the sound is more metal to metal, the noise problem may be due to a bad weld on the chassis. I heard at least one case of a bad weld.

Regarding the plastic splash shield for the L4 engine, what you have is the same as every other L4 Accord made in the U.S. It just wasn't designed that well compared to the one for the V6 engine. The Accord made in Japan has a different smaller splash shield; however, that one doesn't provide as much protection.

Okay, did a little digging, a bunch of people reported this same problem. Looks like the metal to metal sound for some of the Accords was due to a bad spot weld. Some dealer sent the cars to body shops to have it welded, while at one dealership they applied some Honda seam sealer to the area.

This link shows the area inside the trunk where they found the problem. In this picture, the dealership may have applied a seam sealer.

Honda generally uses seam sealer made by 3M.
