Default O2 Sensor on 2006 Accord V6

Hi.
I have a 2006 Accord V6 AT, and my check engine light came on. The code turned out to be P0138 which is Bank 1 Sensor 2 O2 sensor (according to the scanner tool from auto zone). If possible can someone please send a diagram of where it is and if its easy to change? Also, assuming this sensor is easy to change would I have to reset the computer to get rid of the check engine light?

Thanks.

See this link showing the location of the rear oxygen sensor (bank 1, sensor 2). The harness connector will probably need to be disconnected from inside the cabin.

After replacement, you may need to have the code cleared with a scanner/reader as the newer Hondas have non-volatile memory that retain the memory even without power. However, the way the ECM/PCM works is if in several consecutive drive cycles it no longer detects the problems, it may eventually clear.

Thanks! Being that it has to be disconnected from the inside cabin. Would I need to cut and splice the wires in order to replace it? Also, if you have the Honda Part number that would be an awesome help! Thanks a lot!

If you get a direct fit sensor, no wiring splicing is necessary or desired.

I will look up the part number, is your car California emissions or not?

Also, what trim level (e.g., LX, EX, etc.)?

No guarantees; but...

Bank 1, Sensor 2, rear secondary heated oxygen sensor looks to be Honda part number 36542-RKB-004, which should be Denso part number 234-4355. Denso is usually the OEM sensor.

ok.. Thanks! I just took the car out for a drive, and noticed the check engine light went off. It was on all day yesterday and now its off. Does this mean there's a loose connection for that sensor?

Default O2 Sensor

I have a 2003 Accord Ex 4 cyl AT, that needs a secondary O2 sensor; the one on the cat converter. How do I tell which is the exact replacement? there are a couple of these available on Amazon that fit my vehicle. the part# that I think is the correct one is Denso 234-4797. Anyone else use this? thanks.

You have what is called an "intermittent failure", which means a system may have had a failure, but it checks OK now.

Normally, the Malfunction Indicator Light comes on if the problem is detected during two consecutive drive cycles, and may go off if the problem for the sensor isn't continuously being detected in several more drive cycles.

On most cars, the secondary oxygen sensor won't affect drivability. However, since Honda's service manual also states that the secondary HO2S sends signals to the ECM/PCM which varies the duration of the fuel injection accordingly, I would recommend that if this code ever did come back, to replace it when you have a chance, it doesn't have to be immediately; but, to check it and possibly replace it. Just drive normally for now.
