Default Occasional fluctuating tachometer reading between 3000 and 3500

Hello friends, I am presently using Honda accord 1990, with automatic transmission, 4 plugs. At times when on the highway driving the tachometer reading shoot up to between 3000 and 3500 and then returns and remain stable at 2500. Please what might be the probable cause to this situation and on moving uphill it takes time to shift gears and moves sluggishly then pick up suddenly and starts to accelerate.
Hoping to hear from you guys soon.
Thanks
Dr. Ridley Orhe

This is really not "Off-Topic" so I'm moving it to General Tech.

When the tachometer jumps up, does the actual engine speed up? You can hear & feel that as you drive. If the engine is actually speeding up for a moment, and the tach is correctly displaying that; then you need to concentrate on what might be wrong with your transmission.

How does the transmission fluid look? Is the fluid level correct? How long ago was it changed?

Thanks for replying, actually when the tachometer jumps up, the car looses some power for few a seconds and then pick up again. The transmission fluids looks very clean and there is no discolouration or particles in it. Although is long I have changed the transmission fluids. I thought the problem might be from the spark plugs, or there is some problem with the wiring in the distributor that is associated with the ignition, or the solenoids might need some clean up. I will also cross check if the fluid level is correct.
Thanks so much for your useful suggestion.
