Hello,

I have a 2000 Honda accord V6 that has approx 137K miles on it.

(1) Once in a week or two, it does not start right away and I have to turn on the ignition 5-6 times. The car has new NGK platinum spark plugs that I had a mechanic put in. Apparently, that's not stopping this from occurring. I am concerned as my wife uses this car to drive our son to and from his daycare. What could be causing this problem? All the lights on the panel become active and the steering is not rotatable when this happens. After 5/6 tries, the car starts and I kick high on the gas in park and its business as usual.

(2) The card had a P0401 code and the mechanic replaced the EGR valve with a new one. Within a day, the check engine light has come on and when tested it shows P0401 code. I searched the forums and it seems to me that it may not be the actual valve but the clogged stuff that needs to be cleaned.

Can some one please provide me a list of items that need to be cleaned to ensure sufficient air flow?

When the car does not start, does the starter spin the engine? Or does the starter spin the engine, but the engine will not run on its own (this is when you normally release your key)?
