OCI for 06 4cyl accord
I know everyone has their own opinion about OCI's & oil type so I am not so interested in what people are doing but opinions of what is best.
I have a 2006 4cyl accord that I drive approx 800 miles per week. I currently change the oil & filter every 5000 (about 6 weeks) with Mobil 1 (5-20) & Honda filter. The car has about 85,000 and uses about 1/2 quart per oil change.
My questions are:
1-Would I be better off using a good dino oil and change & filter every 3000 miles or continue with synthetic every 5000?
2-are there any down sides to switching to a dino at this point in the cars life. (I have used Mobil 1 since the first change)
I know some still advocate the 3000 interval while others say if I am using Mobil 1 I should go 10k-15k.
To further confuse the situation Honda recommends a 10k interval with dino oil and not changing the filter until 20K[sm=dontgetit.gif]
Thanks
Mark

On our '03 Accord (4-cyl 5-spd) I've been using 6k or7kmile intervals on petroleum oil with a new filter each time. (I don't like the idea of changing oil & leaving the old filter...)
That car goes less than 250 miles per week. Mostly suburban driving, occasionally long interstate drives. Not too much real city driving.
I haven't done any oil analysis to PROVE that interval is OK, but I figure it's conservative compared to the factory interval of 10k miles.
Doesn't your 2006 Accord have a maintenance minder? I'd go with that, but change oil before it gets all the way down to 15%. Maybe change at 30% or something like that?

Yes it does have the maint. minder. It usually hits 15% or so when I am at 5000. Thats why I stayed with the 5000. I am planning on doing a UOA next change just to see how everything is.
Thanks
Thanks
Stick with dino oil and follow the maint. minder.....5-6K is easy for today's oils.If you are stuck in yesteryear (3000 mile OCI) like I was until 1996 do some reading on current oils.
