Default Odd Noise 99 Accord EX V6

I have a 99 EX V6, with 112k. I replaced the t-belt at about 92K, I adjusted the valves at about 100K. The car runs fines great but every two years, I need to clean that passage in the upper plenum so it can idle.

I have a new probelm that is driving me nuts. Intermittently, the engine makes a "chirping noise" under load. I appears to be coming from the rear of the motor near the exhaust manifold? I think.

I replaced the alternator drive belt because the indicator said it was wore out but it didnt make any difference. I also used a long screw driver like a stephascope to listen for valve and internal motor nosies: everything sounded fine; just like a sewing machine.

The noise is intermittent, it sounds like a chirp or a screah, it does not seem to be related to the rotation of the motor. I "seafoamed" the motor to look for exhasut leaks; thinking it might have something to do with a cracked manifold or leaky gasket but it didnt show a lot of smoke in the area.

It almost sounds like the rusty heat shield is rubbing on the exhaust manifold?

Anyone got any idea?

Thank You

Heat shield bolts get rusty and heat shield may be loose. Elevate and inspect carefully.

Make sure all the exhaust hanger rubber suspensions are in place and OK. Look for places where exhaust runs close to body. If any exhaust parts have been replaced, the fit may have changed. I had a 99 Subaru Forester that developed a squeak after I installed an aftermarket catalytic converter. I had to bend an exhaust hanger that was too close to body.

good luck

Default Wierd noise

It's driving me nuts. The sound is like a chirp or a squeal like you would think a belt would make, but its not the belt; I changed it.

It's an intemittent noise like a chirp/squeal; its momnetary when you goose the throttle. It is almost like a convection noise. It seems to eminate from the area around the rear exhaust manifold.

I dont think its anything internal to the motor because when I put a steposcope directly on the valve cover I dont hear anything other than a nice whir.

I have not replaced any exhaust parts and I dont appear to have leaks,

The car is a 99 EX, Coupe, v/6 witk 113k, timing belt and water pump replaced at 90K.

If it was there all the time I'd suggest pulling the belt off and running the engine....I know you replaced it but if the tensioner is loose/worn.......

Can you check the shields and lube any of the rubber hangers on the exhaust.
