Default Oil capacity

I have changed the oil on my '99 Accord twice since we bought it. We have owned several Accords over the years and all of them have always taken 4 quarts at oil and filter change. The owner's manual on this '99 Accord also states that it takes 4 quarts at oil and filter change. However, both times I have changed the oil it has taken 5 quarts to fill it up to the full mark on the dipstick. Is it possible that the dipstick is wrong, or is my engine just weird?

Generally, your car takes approximately 4.5 U.S. quarts for a oil change with the filter. That is generally how much that may come out during a change, more or less, some oil remains in the engine. The total engine oil capacity for your car is 5.9 U.S. quarts. So, it is conceivable you may have to add approximately 5 quarts to bring it to top of the dipstick mark.
