Default Oil Pressure

My oil pressure light has been flashing on non-consistently fo r the past few days. Sometimes it won't come on at all, and sometimes it will flash the entirety of my commute. I've heard that this could be a pump problem or a problem with the sending unit. Is it okay to drive like this? I've been checking the oil level 2 times a day and I'm not losing oil. I just got the oil changed and the problem still persists.

Any ideas? Thanks.

The oil pressure sending unit is located above the oil filter check to see if it is seeping oil. [single wire connector going to it]
Fairly common for the sending unit to go bad. It's just as cheap toreplace it as it is to have an oil pressure test done.

Well, I took the car to a mechanic. he found loose wiring. But that still doesn't explain the loss of oil. I've been checking it everyday now. About every 4 days or so, I'm losing close to a 1/2 quart of oil. The engine has 185K on it. Could I just be burning that oil? I suppose. It just seems like and awful lot to be burning.

Anyways, thanks for the input.

do you have a leak/spot forming under the car after it sits for a while? are you sure that sending unit isn't leaking?

good one ,, I missed that part.....

geddup.. put some newspaper under the car, start it up and let it idle for a bit, chk the paper for any oil leaks,,
also any blue smoke coming out of tail pipe?? when you first start the car ?? at idle ?? when you accellerate ??
if there is No oil leaks then engine is using ( burning ) oil
So ,,your mechanic did not find any oil leaks at all ?? which wire did they repair ? ( loose wire ) as you stated earlier

When I made my first post, I hadn't lost any oil. But as I kept checking, I started losing.

The mechanic didn't tell me which wire was loose. He just told me that he couldn't find any leaks at all.
