Default Opinions on the 1.8 V-tec motor

I'm new to Honda Accords and I'm thinking about buying this 1997 Honda Accord with the 1.8 V-tec. 5sp w/140K miles

Are these motors known for anything besides going well over 200K miles??
Is there any common problem on these Accords?

the 94/97 have a 2.2L motor in them, and are pretty solid IMO. The MT are pretty durable when compared to the AT.

The timing belt is a bit of work to change. There are always minor things that may be annoying to correct (like the EGR ports). The brake rotors a major PIA to change on the 90-97 accords.

As with any used car, you should as much information about the car as you can before you buy it. A neglected engine can have a lot of problems even if the design is solid.

Get it inspected for possible problems (like oil leaks, CV joints, suspension, etc.). Also review the service records if the owner has them, like fluid changes, timing belt, brakes, etc to see if the car was well maintained.

The 1.8 liter engine suggests that Doc Holliday is in England or Europe. Still, what you say about the engine should be the same.

he did mention miles... so he's probably from the states... anyways, the car is not known for any mayor problems so as long as you take PAhonda's advise and get the car checked b4 buying you should be fine
