transmissions are very complicated, there are a good amount of valves, solenoids, pressure ports and a very complicated hydraulic system. it takes skill, knowledge and experience to rebuild one.

a reman tranny from a dealer is about $1500 depending on the place and if installed by the dealer(ask the dealer if you can install it yourself and still get the warranty, i doubt it) you get a 3yr/36,000mile warranty.

you may want to consider swapping a 5th gen auto transmission in there, they are less prone to breaking. the 98-02 had a transmission recall, im not sure if it was fixed or not.

950 one i believe is 6 months don't know about mileage. when i asked the local honda dealer they said they couldn't get the remans and gave me the phone nbr to a place in socal. they were about 2000 with a 3/36000 warranty. that's the place they sent me http://www.gear-speed.com/ I wonder why the local honda dealer couldn't get a reman for me? i got somewhat lucky and the place i bought my car from helped out a bunch on getting mine replaced.

is it possible to swap a 5th gen auto into a 6th gen?

sorry about your loss, but you are not alone. a fair amount of us 6th gen accord owners have had transmission problems. maybe we should start a support group?

to reiterate, when you do the swap you might want to really consider a trans cooler (hayden 403 or something of the like) and change your fluids with honda atf frequently. in the 18,000 miles i've had my rebuilt trans i've already changed the fluid twice.

how hard would it be to swap in a 5th gen tranny into the 6th gen?? I keep hearing about it but nobody says what the differences are. Is there anything I would need to change or "fabricate?" If it is a little stronger I might try if not to much harder. Thanks

also just out of curiosity, Could I maybe get a rebuilt torque converter and flush out the tranny as good as possible and try that or do you think I would be wasting my time. I found a site that sells them for just under $100 plus shipping for a rebuilt guaranteed unit. Could this maybe be plausible or again am I just pissing in the wind. Thanks guys for the info. Sorry for being so cheap but you guys know how it is sometimes.

i doubt a reman torque converter will help as a lasting cost effective repair since it's very difficult to get all the contaminated fluid out of a transmission and trans cooler. when a warranty car throws a p0740 it gets a reman trans and torque converter, plus a trans cooler cleaning(if applicable).

How many miles do you have on your car? You may fall into the class action suite if you're under 109,000 (but I'm guessing you aren't....)
