P1457 Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) Control System Leakage (EVAP Canister System)

He probably forgot to tighten down on the gas cap. My sister did this on her car one day. Make sure the cap is tight and have the codes cleared. If light doesn't come back on, then problem solved.

If it returns, check o-ring on gas cap. Also leaks on the lines to the canister or a bad canister could be the problem.

I'll agree with PAHonda... the most common reason for this is a missing o-ring on the gas cap or not tightening it all the way....

WRONG.. that is code p1456.you are thinking of,,...............for code P 1457 i have founf the fix to be the evap system bypass solenoid valve AND the evap system 2 way valve .. located at thr frt left side of fuel tank

bypass valve part # 17012-S84-AO1 $ 56.90
two way valve part # 17371-S84-AO1 $ 62.50

I just realized that it could also have some to do with the evap purge control solenoid valve located in the engine compartment left rear , next to the engine mount control solenoid valve ,, so it is better to have it properly diagnosed .. but the parts i listed above i have found them to be the culprit in most cases
But like i always say DIAGNOSE, DIAGNOSE DIAGNOSE..

anytime you got a leak in the evap control system it will show up as code p1457 ..
/I have had several of these codes and every time the fix was to replace the bypass solenoid valve and the 2 way valve .. that is why i suggested that , but i later remembered that on 1 occasion we had an issue with the purge control solenoid valve , the one in the engine compartment ,, so now it is not a 100% sure fix what i had adviced him previousely .. so I think he should have the car properly diagnosed thus avoiding spending unnecessary money

I have trouble keeping track of those two codes. We see alot of CVS valve here, Were told road salt gets in and screws em up. p1457 can be caused by over-filling the gas tank also. It gets liquid fuel into the 2-way valve so it doesn't work right during the system check. Once it clears out they're usually ok.

The evap system on these cars is very complex. Some form of troubleshooting is almost mandatory.

I have seen it as well on 1 occasion, this older person . fill the fuel tank all the way to the top,and fuel got into the 2 way valve .. you are correct, causing code p1457

Mine ('98 EX 4cyl auto) threw P1457 when the CVS valve quit working. The valve was corroded & didn't operate at allwhen I tested itwith jumper wires to the battery.

The Helm book has several pages of checks for that code. All the way to a faulty fuel-tank pressure sensor. I didn't get that far with the tests because I found the bad CVS valve.
