Hey Guys,

So I just changed my PCV valve and when I took it out I saw a lot gunk/oil.
When I shook the old PCV valve the parts inside of it still moved.

I replaced it with a new one. The car seems to perform better or maybe I am just imagining things.

I am thinking about looking inside the engine with an endoscope to see how much gunk there is. Where would be the easiest to get "inside"?
If I pull a sparkplug out, would I be able to see anything?

Inside the cyl is prob clean. Seeing the intake plenum would be interesting. Being BDW it would take a bit to get there.

I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you are having other issues.

My engine has been "eating" oil, about a quart every 6000 miles, so I hope this will fix it. Other than that no problems.

I will keep checking my oil level.

 

My '92 uses oil about 1 qt every 1500 miles, so I guess my car would be described as "ravenous." Still drives great, BTW.

Let us know if this PCV replacement fixes your 'oil issue.'

 

I know I will get shot/flamed for this.....yes change, check the oil/filter/pcv and other "regular" maint items as needed......but a quart in ~6K is nothing to get worked up about

 

I am just keeping an eye on the oil level (like I should anyway)

Pretty funny, there isn't a manufacturer in the would which would consider a quart every 6000 miles as "eating oil"; said another way, literally every manufacturer would either say that's normal, or that's really good.

 

Agreed. GM thought 1 quart in a 1000 miles was normal.
My wife's Accord "eats" a quart every 2000 miles (gets an oil change every 3K), but it's also got 238K on it.

I would say a quart in every 6K is pretty good, or in other words, a pint in every 3000 miles is almost tight.

 

So my car still eats some oil which is ok so I reckon the PCV valve had nothing to do with it. It has to be the characteristic of the engine and the driving conditions.

 

If your engine is still consuming roughly a quart of oil every 6,000 miles, be happy, that is right bang on what should be considered appropriate.
