Peculiar Suspension Shudder at Speed
Hello all, this is my first posting on this board. I have been a lurker for some months now, but this recent problem with my Honda has forced me to look for some answers from the members of this board.
During the past month, with the help of your search and the many postings by the members I was able to fix a lot of problems with my car: Torque Converter lock-up, sticky power windows, EGR cleanout, and adjusting the valves. All the work was performed by myself in my driveway. I think I have diagnosed this latest problem, but I was hoping someone here could confirm my assumption. Unfortunately, my recent searches have not produced an answer to my problem.
First, the car is a 1992 Accord with 186,000 miles on the clock. I bought her from someone who wasn’t very knowledgeable about maintenance, but he had regular services done by a mechanic. I believe that the front suspension has worn enough to warrant replacement at this point; but I only want to start replacing items that are worn out. In other words, until the car proves to be reliable, I do not want to throw $1000 into suspension at this point.
The car drives fine with only me in it, but the other night my girlfriend and her sister and I went out for a ride. The added weight of two adults may have put the suspension over the edge. At speeds of 30-40 miles per hour, (speed limits here in town), the car would traverse a bump in the road and a vibration would emanate from the front end of the vehicle. Now this immediately made me think that the front struts need replaced; they are original after all. But maybe I may have to look at the front upper and lower control arms, or CV joints.
Could someone help my suspicions here of a worn front strut.
Thanks,
Tony

i would do exactly like you said......chk the frt suspension components for wear and looseness..
lower and upper control arms ( ball joints ), radius rods + bushings, struts of course, inner and outer tie rods , axle nut tight, loose wheel bearings, cv joints should not cause a vibration going over bumps
