Default persistant p1009 iVTEC advanced malfunction

2004 Accord coupe 2.4 with 221k miles, running fine, uses about half quarts oil per thousand miles. P1003 code came about 6 months ago, CEL comes and goes. I have recently done 1) VTEC solenoid cleaning; 2) replacing a seal filter (or gasket) part# 15815-RAA-A02.

Now the CEL just stays on, and code is still 1009. I drove 1500 miles in last two weeks, no problem, but the annoying yellow light stayed on. Is there anything else I need to replace in that corner? Thanks

I would replace the VTEC Solenoid if all you did was clean it. They can appear to work fine OFF the car, but failed in real world conditions.

Here is part of a tech procedure:

P1009 VTC (variable timing control) Advance Malfunction; It has been reported that a low engine oil level or excessively dirty engine oil can cause this code to set. First you should verify the engine oil is full and there is not an oil pressure issue.
Once the oil level and condition have been eliminated, access the VTEC solenoid at the front of the engine and unplug the connector. It will have a BLU/WHT wire and a BLK wire. With the engine warm and at idle, power the terminal (12 volts) on the solenoid that the BLU/WHT wire of the connector was attached to, and ground the other terminal. The engine should run rough or stall. If the engine does not run rough or stall, remove and inspect the VTEC solenoid verify it's operation. If it is working correctly, access the VTEC oil strainer (removal of P/S pump is required) and make sure it is not restricted.
If all the above checkout, remove the valve cover and verify timing chain alignment and VTEC gear function.
