I discussed this with a few mechanics looking for work at the pick n pull in Oakland, and two of them mentioned a plastic gear inside the transaxle which meshes with this VSS drive unit. Can anyone shed some light on this repair? I await your response, and the Haynes manual from the library. Thanks for the help!

Oh, BTW, I pulled a VSS drive unit from a car at the wreckers, and it is the type Poorman sent the diagram of (on this thread). I installed in into my car, but it still won't turn. ???

Do you have pic's of the old one and the "pin" that goes into it?

I don't have a pic, but can post one in a few days. I'm not sure that will help anything, though. It would seem the trouble is with the gear in the transaxle, as neither drive unit will turn.
Thanks Poorman -

I looked at FSM for a linking gear to the VSS base drive and could not find anything. It may be there but not documented well.

good luck

That's crazy. Certainly I can't be the only person who's had this issue? BTW Poorman, I don't think a photo of my VSS is going to help. Besides, I now own both versions. The problem is not the pin, but that the unit is not being engaged when the car is moving. The unit in the diagram you posted has a wider gear at the bottom, and the unit I pulled from the car has power steering pump connections. Neither one turns when the car is in drive, rolling forward.

Nothing in the Haynes Repair Manual about this, just a picture of the power steering speed sensor assembly. Giving my head some time to wrap itself around the tranny pull, hoping another option presents itself in the meantime.

Thanks for the help.

Default 1994 Accord speed sensor/transaxle head-scratcher!

My 1994 accord power steering speed sensor assembly is not turning while the car is moving forward. Can you tell me how to repair the gear in the transaxle that meshes with the assembly?

Many thanks.

See graphic under "VSS Removal". Is it possible you have a Civic fixture?

VSS - Vehicle Speed Sensor Troubleshoot, Repair, Replace - How To.

See other pics to be sure you have correct part installed into trans case.

good luck
