I pulled the VSS "fixture" (assembly) from an accord, and now have two: One with power steering connections, and one without.

VSS for 94 Accord does not have the hydraulic pump for feedback to the PS pump. Are they same or different gear size, length of shaft?

good luck

Texas - I have seen this diagram, and in the troubleshooting flowchart, there is a reference to a "transaxle gear". I believe that is where the trouble is.

The VSS I pulled from my car has the power steering connections. The VSS I pulled from the 94 Accord at the wreckers does not, and the gear on that one is wider than the gear on the one I pulled from my car. They are both about the same length - that is, they go into the transaxle about the same distance.

Now I'm getting confused.

The 4th gen (90-93) have the PS connections

The 5th gen (94-97) do not have PS connections.

So the car might be a 5th gen with a 4th gen trans in it?

Poorman, you could be right about that. A fellow at the wreckers mentioned something to that effect. What to do?

Verify the car - run the VIN.

What/which type was in the car when you got it - one with the hose connections or the one without?

It came to me with the hose connection - type. I acquired the other type (your diagram) and installed it, but it also does not turn. I have begun to tear it apart to swap the tranny, but I am stuck on the "rear mounting plate" nut. I can only get a 17MM boxend on it, and I haven't the strength to crack it. Guess I need a longer 17MM...

I'm not sure how to "run the VIN". I did a free carfax-type thing online, but nothing came up.

Thanks Poorman

The VIN can be decoded to give you the year, model, transmission, engine size, etc... Just google Honda VIN decoder and enter your VIN. The decoder will tell you the car's info.

On the transmission, there should be a number stamped on the transmission in the vicinity of the front motor mount that would give some information about the transmission in your vehicle.

Thanks - I ran the vin decoder - didn't tell me anything except that it's auto trans. I will write down numbers on engine and tranny this week.
