Default Problem going over 4k rpm on long trips

Hi I'm based in the UK and I have a 98 Honda Accord 2.0i ES.

When I do longer journeys (around 30 miles or so) the car then develops a fault in all gears where it won't go over 4000 rpm and gets very "lumpy" and I have to change up to the next gear.
This started around 6 weeks ago and before then it was fine.

I'm lost as to what the issue could be, as on shorted journeys I can go over 4000rpm with no problems.

I'm not massively mechanically minded, but I need some guidance as to where to start / look, as I don't want to have to pay out for a mechanic / vehicle engineer to diagnose the fault when it could be something I could do.

If anyone can help / refer me to some resources which could help me. I did find 1 link here (http://www.driveaccord.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=29713) but this doesn't say whether it's a constant problem or intermittent (like my issue seems to be).

Additionally, I don't get any warning lights lit up on the dashboard.

Surprised that there's no warning lamps. Is your CEL (check-engine light) working? I think in UK it's labeled something different like "malfunction"?

It should light up for 2 seconds (bulb-check) when you first turn on the key. Then it goes out.

X2 .... I had a bad tps on mine and it felt like it wanted to hold onto the gears too long and the would slam into the higher gear .... It seemed like it was defaulting to change gears at a set speed rather than based on loading. Honda makes this simple sensor change a real PITA though because they want you to buy a whole new throttle body. I removed the security bolts with a dremel and a flat screwdriver and found a used TB with the sensor on HAF. Once I got that set up and calibrated, no more problems!
