Default Question about hubcaps!

I was wondering if it's true that driving without your hubcaps (i.e just riding on the steelies) is bad? Thoughts?

I don't see how that could possibly be bad. Maybe ugly, but not bad.

I could see some issues for corrosion of wheel retaining studs & nuts, and wheel hub lock nut and shaft end. Hubcaps do provide protection from the elements.

regards

Spray some rustoleum on there if you're worried. See if they have it in "24 karat gold" tintand your steelies would be pimped out [sm=pimp.gif]

Geez,do they even HAVE corrosion in Texas?

Using the wheel covers doesn't seem to help at all against corrosion where I live. Doesn't slow it down a bit.

There is corrosion down here.. vbg .. try getting the exhaust manifoldoff a 66 mustang thats been sitting in a field for years.

AFAIK hubcaps are purely cosmetic. Corrosion isn't going to be stopped by something that doesn't seal tightly, at any rate. With trailers we use grease-packed bearing caps but those are actually a press fit and pack.

Speaking of spinners, I did happen to see a 90s vintage Geo Metro roll by the other day, turquoise blue, with a spoiler, a fart can, and fake chrome spinner hubcaps. IF you're going to go all the way, make sure your hubcap spinners have a bunch of plastic rhinestones glued to them for that extra "bling" effect. Maybe you can also carry a fake knockoff hammer and a fake spoke tensioner to go with your fake Daytons.
