Default random stalling

I drive a 1999 honda accord lx. The car has developed a problem as in, it jerks heavily and stops upon slowing down to stop. After stopping it fails to start again but if it starts, it jerks and has a hard engine run. What could be the cause?

Is the check-engine light on? If so, have the error codes read by a parts store & tell us the code numbers (something like P1234).

How up-to-date are the tune-up things? Spark plugs, airfilter, etc.

Sometimes you can identify flaky sparkplug wires by looking for arcing during a cold-start in complete darkness.
