Default Rear brakes on 04 Accord are already worn. Is this normal?

Hi! I've got an 04 Accord EX-V6 with 30,000 miles. I took it into the dealer for the 30,000 maintenance and they said that the rear brake pads were almost worn down. I bought the car used, so I don't know if the front ones have already been replaced because they are still good. It just struck me as kind of odd that they would get worn down so fast. Even my old POS 99 Cougar's brakes lasted 85K before they needed replaced. Also, is it odd that the rear ones went out before the front? I thought that, in general, the front ones tend to get worn down first. Thanks for the help!

I would agree that the front pads should wear down faster than the rear.... However, without knowing the history of the car someone may have put some super cheap pads on the rear or just never replaced them and rode the brakes hard thus causing the front ones to need replaced and the rear being fine.... now the rear have gone bad.... I wouldn't worry about it just yet, keep an eye on them and chances are they'll survive a WHOLE lot longer when replaced with some decent pads....

The rears wear first due to the electronic brake distribution system on the 7th gens. It is common.

holy crap man, 30K for brakes is not normal..... on my 94 i changed them at 124K for the FIRST TIME on my 98 LX V6 I changed the rear at 90K and had not changed the fronts when I sold the car at 100K

it is normal for the rear brakes to wear out faster than the fronts when you have disk brakes but 30K wear is not normal at all unless you are indy car 500 driving that thing.......

I bet you've got some cheap pads on there and whoever owned it drove like an idiot.... get some decent pads and I'll bet they'll make it longer than 30k for sure.... I'm starting to feel much better about buying a 94..... I'm not sure at this point if I want any other year *L*

i have found rear pads on newer cars last less than earlier models,,,,,,,
But i still would inspect the calipers , make sure they are free and also make sure that the caliper piston retracts normally .. if ok install a set of Honda pads , lube caliper sliders

Now that's not normal unless you do alot of highway driving.
