Depending on how dirty the overflow bottle is, I usually have to use a light & shake the bottle a bit so I can see the liquid moving. Then I can see the level.

Also, there's a couple situations where the overflow bottle is full but the radiator itself is going empty. So when it's all cold, open the radiator cap & verify fluid right up to the top.

Excellent! I'll try that in the morning. Thanks for the suggestion.

The overflow bottle will come out pretty easy. It pretty much lifts straight up, you might have to lossen the hold down on the battery and slide the battery a bit. Once out you can wash out the inside of it and the outside.

I did this a while back on a 95 I use to have because it was getting hard to see the level in the overflow....just an idea/suggestion.

So it looks like I'm low on coolant. Quick question: I looked into the overflow bottle and the coolant in it is green (same as in the radiator). I plan to buy this Honda Coolant on Amazon, but it says "Blue Type 2 Coolant". Does the color matter at all?

Thanks again.

On a 94 Accord -

Honestly, I just go to a parts store and get the regular "green type" coolant. I would even say that don't worry with name brands - get the "house" brand and you will be fine.

For antifreeze I use the 50/50 mixture from Walmart and also buy my oil there. All auto items are cheaper there than auto parts stores. You can also order online and pickup in the store.

You need non-silicate antifreeze, which is really just about ALL antifreeze today. Don't get the stuff that says Dex-Cool.

Green Prestone (in the yellow jug) works OK. That's probably what you have in there, so it's already too late to keep it "genuine Honda".
