Default red light 2013 accord EX-L

By the power window/ inside light switch there is a small "bump" with a red LED in it that comes on and off completely at random, while driving, at start up, night or day,... .Talked to two sales people, two service reps, and two calls to the 1-800 number and all I get are guesses. These include interior lighting, security system, automatic headlight control, "bring it in when the light is on and we'll throw it on the computer", and the very honest and scary don't know, never seen that before. Can not find any info in the owners manual and am baffled that none of the "professionals" can readily identify it. Does anyone KNOW?

I would suspect an indicator for an aftermarket alarm, if it's in the dash. If in the door switch assy, likely something else added for some purpose.

good luck

Strictly stock, the light is in the top mount console with the sun roof & interior lighting controls. Thanks for the reply. This is my (wifes) first Honda after decades of GM, I inherited her 04 impala with 292,000 miles and no trouble, just had the CVT replaced (under warranty) at 28,000 and right now am running scared.

It called ambient lighting. It comes on when the parking lights or headlights are on. If you have the car on automatic lighting control for the exterior, then that may explain why interior ambient light appears to turn on randomly.

Since it does come on during daylight hours (midday, bright sun) does that mean I have a sensitivity problem or malfunction?

Next time it happens, check whether you exterior lights are on too. The light sensor for the automatic headlight control is on your dash. Make sure your not placing anything over it.

The auto lights feature does have an adjustable sensitivity setting, it came adjusted to max so I changed it to the middle of 5 available settings. Thanks for the input and I'll update if this is the cure.

DONE (hopefully) The sensitivity was adjusted to the middle & am now getting the headlight/ fog light icons "on" on the dash also (didn't realize they were missing till now). Apparently it is "ambient" lighting that comes on when the headlights come on and comes in either blue or red, mine just happened to be red, possibly a little corporate joke to increase the "fear factor" and prompt a trip to the dealer. Thanks

The coupes had the red ambient light and the sedans had the blue ambient light.
