Redlining at 5500rpm/engine cutting out at 5500rpm
Hey, another problem with the accord I just bought. I tried getting on it since i fixed the radiator fan and temp gauge problem, and the car seems to be redlining at 5500 rpm. When I hit 5500rpm it just drops to like 5200-5300 then goes back up, as if its hitting a rev limiter. Is this an ignition/fuel/vtec issue? Plz help guys! i swear one day I might be able to actually help someone rather then always posting my problems here!
You have a couple of threads going on right now and I can't remember the details, so I'm going to ask some basic questions.
How are the tuneup items on your car like spark plugs, distributor cap, distributor rotor, air filter?
Does your check engine light turn on while driving?

Check the oil dipstick.
I would consider cleaning out the EGR ports on the intake manifold. In the common DIY thread on top of the gen tech help forum, there is a link to cleaning the EGR port on an accord. If you google ericthecarguy egr port, there is a good YouTube video on this as well.

Ok I watched that video, and it seems like something that would be good to do considering my car has 170k on it. Why am I checking the dipstick? i do it everyday and i have a valvecover gasket leak, but other then that what am I looking for?
mine was an old high mile '93, so I didn't run engine that fast
except that once, just to 'see what it would do.'
Basically, it wasn't broken as far as my daily driver use, so I didn't fix it.

I cleaned the egr ports, and it still wont go past 5200rpm. Anyone else have any ideas? I've read that it could have something to do with the vtech. I dont know if I should be feeling vtech kick in (I've been a Nissan 240 guy my whole life), but flooring it in 2nd gear from 2500 to 5200, I don't really feel anykind of extra pull from the vtech.
You don't really feel vtec kick in. It turns between 2300-3200 rpm.
Vtec runs off of oil pressure. If your oil was low, then you could have a problem with vtec. This would also set an engine code.
I would check your engine codes anyway. It is simple to do. Go to the common DIY thread on top of the gen tech help forum. There is a link for checking engine codes.
After checking for codes, I would also consider disconnecting the battery. Clean all ends of both battery cables using a wire brush or sand paper. There is an important ground near the brake brake booster (left side of the brake booster when looking at the car from the front bumper).
I would also stop by an auto parts store after you do this and have them test the battery and alternator, just to be sure that they are in good shape.
You want to make sure the basic stuff is checked before moving on to other tests or fixes. You do not want to throw parts at the car.
