Replacement battery (2005 Accord EX-L V6 w/o Navi)
Hello all,
I am new to this site and just found it tonight while googling; this is great.
I am considering replacing the battery in my 2005 Accord EX-L V6 (car was built in 9/04). I live outside of Detroit and occasionally drive to northern MI in the winter where it's 0-5 degrees at night in the winter; hence my idea to replace the battery before I get stranded.
Anyway, my question is should this be something I replace myself or let the dealer do. I am not a very handy guy but think replacing a battery is not a big deal.
I bought an extended 7yr/100k Honda warranty with the car, so I am also wondering if Honda will give me crap later on if I buy a NAPA/Sears/Bosch etc non Honda battery.
A replacement battery in the local Honda dealer runs $90 (if they install it its $145) and its the 440 CCA. Other auto parts stores recommend 550-640 CCA batteries but I am not sure I need the extra CCA.
Also, will the plastic shell around the OEM battery now fit around any group 35 battery?
Thanks for all who I respond, I appreciate your input and look forward to checking out this site.
Scott

Replacing the battery isn't difficult. You will probably need your radio code.
I think that replacing a good battery is a waste of money. There are 2005 hondas in northern Michigan that still start in the cold weather with the original battery. My honda battery didn't have any problems when I had to start it in -20 degree weather.
An aftermarket battery should not void your warranty. You can remove your battery and see if it has the same dimensions as the replacement, if you choose to buy one with more CCA.
