Default replacing MULTIPLEX CONTROL(DRIVER SIDE) part # 38800-S84-A22

I have a 1998 Honda Accord EXL 4 cylinder 5 speed that is having intermittent power issues. After some research, I ordered a 38800-S84-A22 drivers side multiplex unit.

I was able to remove a bolt (23) after pulling the fuse door. The diagram Honda online store : 1998 accord control unit (cabin) parts shows another bolt (21).

If I get this other bolt out can I remove & replace 38800-S84-A22? Or do I have to take off the instrument panel cover?

Please reply if you have insight in replacing 38800-S84-A22.

TIA
fredq2

Can't say I've ever done this but the manual "says" there is only one bolt on the fuse panel......it also states the lower cover, sill and kick have to come off? But as with anything there are "tricks" people learn?

Please let us know what you find out.

I got the one bolt off. There are a couple of plastic tabs top and bottom that were holding it. I'll take some pictures of the wire harnesses before I pull all of those. Hopefully it will come out enough so I can replace the multiplex.

Thanks for the help!

later - Was able to replace the multiplex unit but unfortunately it was not the problem. I have an intermittent open circuit where all the dash stuff (clock, radio, lights...) goes off and sometimes the alarm sounds and I cant turn it off (pulled the horn relay).

During the test drive it appears to be a wire connection somewhere (I hear the radar detector static when I hit bumps)

Well back to the drawing board...

I see you updated the thread. A bit of advise, next time post back to the thread with an update....that updates the thread and moves it back to the top.

I only ran across this because I couldn't remember the last thread I read and was going back to try to refresh my memory.

When you say "lights", can you be a bit more specific? Try to see what I can come up with.

The symptoms are radio, clock (but not the backlight), dash lights and taillights, power locks all go out. This happens randomly but can be caused by a hard turn or running over a bump in the road.

When everything is working, the only symptom is the right turn signal flashes too quickly (checked the light bulbs and it doesn't appear to be the relay)

Thanks for your help. Hopefully a new post updates the thread.

Im thinking a loose connection and doing some trouble shooting with 2 people (car running), 1 observing and the other checking connections.

Is this a factory audio system?

Oh I hate electrical.....

Ok, on a reach.....double check the tail light relay in the pass under dash fuse panel. In comparing the diagrams for the circuits that are "going out" this is one of the common items in them.
