Replacing Power Steering Pump--necessary to replace reservoir too?
Hello all, first post here.
I have a 2005 Accord v6 that needs a power steering pump replacement. The power steering is weak to nonexistent at low RPMs, but generally works OK when in motion. This basically is only noticeable when parking. I have taken it in to the local Honda dealer, had the recalled hose replaced, and replaced the O ring myself. The consensus I've gotten is that the pump needs to be replaced.
I have purchased the part already, and plan to have it installed by a mechanic this week. My question is, is it necessary (or how important is it) to replace the reservoir as well? I do not currently have this part. It seemed like there was a tiny bit of dirt/grit in it, but not much.
Any thoughts on this? I'm not much of a car guy as you can probably tell by my post.
Thanks in advance!
Tom

Welcome to HAF Tom.
No the res should be fine. At most you might clean it out, a few different options. Be sure to only use Honda/Acura approved ps fluid. Honda's are picky when it comes to ps fluid (and a few others like auto trans fluid).
